James Logan and Moreau Catholic have had a well-known rivalry throughout the years, with Logan being dominant throughout most of the sports programs. However, basketball games between the two powerhouse programs have historically been neck-to-neck, and with the league title on the line, this time was no different.

Prior to the big game, Logan had already lost to the Mariners in a home game, 62-52. However, with most of the season behind them, the Colts were now better prepared both mentally and physically.

With Logan taking the first possession of the game, the boys quickly went to work by scoring 11 points in the first 10 minutes and taking an 11-4 lead. Logan dominated the first quarter, consistently maintaining a 5-point lead throughout.

In the second quarter, the Colts increased their lead to as much as 10 points. However, in the final 2 minutes, Moreau’s offense had a quick resurgence, with guard Maxwell Anderson nailing a 3-pointer buzzer beater. At halftime, the Mariners had trimmed the Colts’ lead to only 3 points.

Moreau began the third quarter slow, but controlled possession of the ball. By the 5-minute mark, they finally edged Logan for the first time, leading 38-37.

The Mariners held their slim lead throughout the rest of the 3rd and into the beginning of the 4th. But as the quarter progressed, Logan overcame its 3-point difficulties and was able to slowly surpass the Mariners setting up an exciting conclusion to the game.

As the clock ticked down, the Colts successfully checked the Moreau offense time after time, and even slightly increased their lead. When the dust had settled, Logan prevailed over their long-time rivals, by a score of 65-61.

With the win, the Colts were crowned MVAL Champions, providing an exciting end to their successful season.
