The most well-known K-Pop group in the world is Bangtan Boys ” BTS.” The members of the group are Jungkook, V, Jimin, Suga, Jin, and RM. The group has gained a lot of attention from many high school students. Many students are fans of BTS. The group appeals to many different types of students, and their popularity is only growing larger.

Since BTS debuted in 2013, they weren’t as well known as they are today. Jean Ho, a James Logan high school senior, remembered how she found BTS from the usage of social media. She enjoyed how they used music to express their emotions which made it relatable to their audience.

“The moment when their popularity was rising, I knew they were going to go worldwide,” Ho said. She has followed them since and likes and respects all of them, even though there are many members.

“Having talented individuals to choose from is impossible!” Ho said. She also admires their ability to speak out for the younger generation and become role models for those who are in need of one. She listens to their music daily because not only does it make her happy, but because she genuinely enjoys the feeling she has whenever she hears their majestic sound.

Mitchelle Consul, James Logan senior,  recently discovered BTS and isn’t impressed.

“I do not enjoy this type of music.” Consul says that BTS is “overrated” and that “there are many gifted musicians”. Most of her classmates are listening to BTS and suggestions of their music are very common. She saw a video of them on Youtube with millions of views and noticed how popular they are, but hasn’t started following them.

At logan, more people than just students are fans of BTS.

“Their songs make me feel connected,” said Elizabeth Miljas, a teacher at James Logan. Miljas understands the emotional draw of their music. No matter what age, gender, race, or culture, music can create a community that feels welcoming. Miljas plays BTS for her students on occasion and hasn’t got any complaints about playing the songs. The songs have the ability to create that emotional connection.  She noted that many of her students have a particular favorite, RM because they are able to relate to him from their own personal experience.

People have their own choice in music. Most look for the sound, the vibe, and even the lyrics when finding songs. BTS has a big fan base on high school students because of their influential songs, their impactful history, and so much more. It’s not shocking that BTS is so popular. Soon enough, they should be considered mainstream artists.
