On Tuesday, the Freshman performed their skit for the very first time.
People loved the skit, but there were some confusions and discrepancies between the plot and the dances.
The theme was “Up”, however the skit had little to nothing to do with the movie. The skit starts out with the funeral of Carl Fredricksen. It was really sweet with a slide show in the background showing pictures in a scrapbook about his life. However, to everyone’s confusion, the dancers came out right after that and started dancing to Bruno Mars’ song “Finesse”. That was the last part of the skit that was somewhat relevant to the movie.
The storyline of the skit was pretty good: a classic guy meets girl story. It was about how Russel goes to school and gets bullied, but a girl comes to see if he’s okay after he was pushed down. The plot twist was that the bully was actually the girl’s older brother. At this point, the skit has a very positive anti-bullying theme.
However, there was some confusing message sent afterwards when Russel and the sister decided to get revenge on her brother. They filmed him getting in trouble with their mom and crying during the ordeal. They proceeded to released the video to the entire school. That sends some very confusing messages. It goes from anti-bullying to getting revenge on your bullies which is not what students should be doing.
There was some mixed reactions to the skit.
Simran Kalkat, a senior says that “it was a little confusing, but their dances were good.”
Another senior, Mary Kay Jimenez says that “the dancing was the best part, but the story line was a bit basic.”
Overall, for their first time participating for skit, the freshman did a good job. They had a pretty good theme for their story and the choreographing was good.
