Anna Akana released her Youtube Red series Youth and Consequences on March 7 starring Anna Akana, Piper Curda, Sean Grandillo, Sophie Reynolds and other up and coming actors and actresses. It’s directed by Ubaldi and produced by Anna Akana herself.
The show centers around the queen bee of high school, Farrah Cutney (Anna Akana), and all her high school challenges. Farrah challenges her high school classmates, administrators, as well as her own friends. Katie Sarife, Sophie Reynolds, and Kara Royster play the role of Farrah’s friends. Sean Grandillo plays Colin Cowher, from the controversial gossip blog, the “CROTCH”. The “CROTCH” stands for Central Rochester which is the name of the school that they attend.
Conflict arises when the new student council president doesn’t agree with Farrah’s views. Tension soon grows when Farrah’s friend group splits into two because of disagreeing views. The consequences of her actions soon catch up to Farrah as she realizes that her high school isn’t that easy to control after all.
The show addresses many relevant issues as well ranging from peer pressure, cyberbullying, and LGBTQ rights.
Akana has stated that this show has been her dream project. She’s spent the last seven years or so trying to make it as an actress in Hollywood. Akana’s career started back when she directed and starred in skits that she posted on YouTube. As an Asian American this role is important to Akana because it strays away from stereotypes that Asian American actors are subjected to.
Youth and Consequences currently has 8 episodes of the first season up on Anna Akana’s YouTube channel. The first 2 episodes are free, and the rest can be accessed by purchasing YouTube Red. As of right now, there is no confirmation if a second season is in place.
