While many students and teachers have different opinions about the breakdown of grading, most students think the current-education-systemgrading system should be more based on effort and participation rather than the test’s score.

But actually some immigrant students are having different opinion about the grading system in US comparing to their home countries.

HongKun Gu, a Chinese immigrant student, thinks the grading system in America is much fairer than the grading system in China. “In China, your grade is based 100% on your scores in your tests and quizzes”, said Gu, “You can’t get any points from the homework at all, but if you don’t turn in your homework, you might got punished.”

Gu thinks the grading system in US is fair for him because if he completed all of the homework but didn’t get a good score on the test, he could still get a good grade in that class.

Omar Guillero, a Mexican immigrant student, thinks the grading system should use numbers instead of letters.

“It would be more accurate and detailed if you use the percentage; there’s a huge difference between a student who got 99% on the class and another student who got 91% on the class.”

While immigrant students differ on their opinions of the system, they all agree that America’s education system is very different.
