spidermanOn December 8th, the trailer for the new movie out of the Marvel Universe, Spider-man: Homecoming, was released.

The trailer features an eccentrically dressed Tony Stark (I know, what else is new?) giving a spiel to Peter Parker (portrayed once again by Tom Holland) about how he is most definitely not an Avenger.  This took some by surprise as “Spidey” was seen most recently fighting alongside the group in Captain America: Civil War, though this was brushed off as his try-out of sorts.

As for some logistics, Tony Stark did design the suit Spider-man wears.  At first hearing this, many may think this is a way of changing up Spider-man or modernizing the hero, per se.  However, the suit will be featuring all of the classic features from the comics, just upped to the Stark standard.  For instance, we know that the suit has the “spider light” from the trailer.  With this, Marvel is trying to reclaim Spider-man and “bring him home” after so many differing opinions about the franchise in recent years.

Our antagonist this time around is The Vulture played by Michael Keaton (known for Batman (1989), Beetlejuice, and Birdman.)  This was also a bit of a surprise because it had been said that Keaton had turned down the role, but is back. (???) Anyways, it will be nice to see Keaton’s more intense side, for the first real time since Batman almost 30 years ago.

The movie is, in some ways, a “coming of age” story, in the way that Spider-man wants to become an actual A-list avenger.  I have high hopes for this installment of the franchise, and am eager to see what comes of it this June.
