Have you ever looked back to your past and just thought, “what was I thinking!?” Or, have you ever wondered, Where will I be in five years? Well, two friends loved the idea of being able to connect the past and the future and created this interesting website called Futureme.org.

Futureme.org is a website built by two guys named Matt and Jay. They actually took the assignment they
had in high school and college to write a letter to themselves in the future, and created a website for it. They based in on their principle that memories are less accurate than emails. They strive for  accuracy.

The website itself is written and explained in a very laid back and young tone and is very simple and easy to use. It requires you to enter an e-mail that has longevity in it, so that if you want to send a letter to yourself in 10 years, they can still get in touch with you.

It is a huge factor to keep the same e-mail to receive the letters. Then, you are free to type anything and everything to yourself. Lastly, you get to specify the exact day, month, and year you want to send it. It can be 15 years from now, or maybe just a week from now. Some people have even sent a letter to the very next day. Then, all you have to do is wait for that day to come and magically, you get to talk to the  past.
It is a really clever website and every entertaining. Besides writing your own letters, you can also view other people’s letters to
themselves. It is funny how many people ask themselves if they have lost that weight yet, or if they are rich yet. It is cool to read
what a 12 year old would write to his 21 year self. Many people treat it as a diary, or a time capsule. Some people use it to just remind themselves to do something, or to encourage themselves. It is a good way to start off a new-year and help follow up on those new-year resolutions. It is also a fun way to send a comment to yourself randomly just to make your day.

The age range and nationalities of the Futureme.org users are very wide. I came across several written in Spanish and French. Currently, there are 218,566 letters written to the future and counting.

Remember when you were a Freshman- a newbie to James Logan High School? Or maybe you currently are a Freshman right now. Every Freshman that took Life-Skills had an assignment to write a letter to your self in the future- I believe we had to write to the future high school graduate of ourselves. It was a silly idea and task to write Dear Me. But we all know that a lot changes from Freshman year to Senior year.

Just think how much you will change in ten years.

Futureme.org makes it possible to have those letters written anytime and in any year. So, if you want to write a letter to the future you, record a memorable moment, or tell yourself about everything you did on your fifteenth birthday party, or congratulate yourself on your twenty-first birthday, or just remind yourself that you are the best, then go check out  Futureme.org. If you don’t want to talk to yourself, or you are just bored, you are also free to go and delve into other people’s lives by reading what they wrote to themselves.
