The Trunk Boiz is a underground hip-hop group with Logan roots and a fan base that’s steadily growing.
The group recently released a self-titled demo that has their fans craving more. The Courier has a free sample from that CD, the single “Cupcake No Fillin,” for readers who click here.
The group consists of Logan student Mark Moore, who sometimes calls himself Voice or Platinum Voice, Jay Morton, The Magnificent “NB”, Filty Fam, B Janky, Artist, Rece The Beast, Jermany & Young Giez, Lil Sky, and Branden.
The group met and eventually formed in Downtown Oakland. They have been an official group for about a year and a half.
VoiceÂ’s mother sparked his interest in music in earlier years, listening to different forms of hip-hop, rap, and R & B. Voice and J Mo launched their career from there. “My mom always had my mind on music,” said Moore.
The group has been together making original compositions for six months. They met in a studio in Oakland with their producer Filty Fam around every other week. The group has been busy doing gigs in coffee shops and other places of the like. They are also trying to get themselves known on the radio. For now, other than the gigs they land, the group is now working on their second album.
The group recently released its debut CD, Trunk Boiz, which is available for $3 in room 509, and includes the single “Cupcake No Fillin,” which is receiving play around campus and elsewhere.
The Trunk Boiz have a follow-up CD in the works.
The Trunk Boiz will perform April 1 in Vallejo.
