In a liberal community, it’s rare to find a supporter of Donald Trump which is why I went out in search for people who favor the Republican Candidate.
The San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most leftist communities in the United States. It also happens to be one of the most diverse. So, you’re probably expecting to meet someone who is in favor of a leftist candidate. However, sometimes, that’s not the case.
I spoke to a junior at James Logan High School who told me why he supports Trump.
“I am a Trump supporter for quite a lot of reasons. A few being the cancer that is political correctness, Radical Islamic terrorism that is becoming more prevalent by the day, and horrible trade deals and policies that are destroying America’s economy as well as the huge cost that illegal immigrants bring on us each year,” said Carlos Gonzalez, a student who attends Logan. Gonzalez is a Mexican-American who supports Trump.
“Donald promises to fix all of these and he has told us his plans and I love them.”
It has been said that women who are in favor of Trump are only degrading themselves. Melonie Lemmon, a young woman says otherwise.
“Trump’s idea of keeping out any more people makes sense,” she says.
“We’re opening the door for newcomers who haven’t been in our shoes.”
Speaking of women, a tape that has surfaced on the internet and media after 11 years has been the most controversial topic during Trump’s presidential race. This tape is known for the line “grab [women] by the p****.” After the tape, his poll numbers dropped significantly.
Donald J. Trump, before his election was only known as a businessman who ran a pageant. Trump was all about business before his presidential run. I spoke to someone who is about business as well.
“Donald Trump has life experience as well as business experience. Running a country is like running a business. HRC has 30 years of experience, but do people actually want business as usual at Capitol Hill?” says Ray Zelizer, a small business owner.
Supporters of Trump are aware that Trump has said some pretty bad things, but it doesn’t necessarily mean bad intentions for the country. Supporters claim that it’s just the way he words things.
A Logan teacher who has asked to remain anonymous said,
“I know Trump says some things rather harshly and that he is a little ‘rough around the edges’, but I would prefer to have someone who I know what he thinks and believes versus an HRC who seems more interested in getting your vote…”
Election Day is tomorrow. According to the ABC News/Washington Post National Tracking Poll, Trump has 43% of voters in a recent poll, while Clinton has 48%. Very close numbers.
Tune in tomorrow evening for our official President of the United States for the years 2017-2020.
