On October 3rd Nintendo released Super Smash Brothers 3DS in the United States. Club Nintendo platinum members had a chance to play the demo a week earlier than everyone else in the world. The demo was limited to only a few modes within the game. A mode called “Smash” allowed the user to play battles against one to three other opponents, those other opponents may be your friends or CPU’s.

When the full game had released at October 3rd, the video game retailer GameStop held over two thousand midnight launches to celebrate the launch of Super Smash Bros. Gamestop held a tourneys in almost all of their retail stores. Locals in New York City were able to get the game four hours earlier before the midnight launch and Super Smash Bros. was able to be purchased in the Nintendo World Store in Rockfeller Center.

Super Smash Bros. 3DS sold over one million copies during its debut weekend in Japan and none of the stores in Japan had a single copy of the game, which made many people download it from Nintendo’s virtual shop. Currently around the Bay Area, Super Smash Bros. has also been sold out in almost every Gamestop so far. We won’t be able to see any copies of the games until next week or so.

The game feels smooth with a frame rate of 60 fps on just such a small handheld console. The controls may feel funky in the beginning but once you get the hang of it it won’t be a problem. Overall the game is great with it’s smooth gameplay and enjoyment with friends. The game may have flaws like different characters with similar movesets, which makes the the character selection seem limited, but still holds a wide variety of characters to try out. Another flaw is that some stages seem dull and hopefully the Wii U version will have better stages when it comes out in the next few months. The biggest flaw of them all is that the game has no longer a story mode and in the previous Super Smash Bros. it had a story mode which everyone enjoyed. It seem like a disappointment but the game overall is fantastic.

One of the best improvements in the game is the online service. In the previous title Super Smash Bros. Brawl the online battles were awful with lag issues even if you had good internet connection, but the developers have improved the online battles. Smash Bros. 3DS is somewhat great if you have good internet connection, if you have slow internet connection you may witness some lag issues which is no fun playing with. I recommend for everyone to get Super Smash Bros. 3DS or Wii U (Coming out Holiday 2014) whether fan of the series or not. Super Smash Bros. is a game that is easy to understand and fun with or without friends. So get the game, play with friends and have fun.
