This semester has been mentally and physically taxing on us students. Now with finals coming up your stress may be heightened and you may feel that you have to achieve crazy results to save your grade.  Whether you’re a freshman taking your first finals or a senior used to taking finals, you probably feel immense pressure to achieve  good scores.  If you are in the same boat as me, you are probably wondering how to magically bring your grades up to a passing level. Let’s take a deep breath and focus.  What exactly do we need to do to prepare?  Should we get in touch with someone?  Let’s bring our thoughts down to a reasonable pace and plan wisely.

What do you need?  Go through the classes you are struggling in and which ones you are getting through with no problems.  Now prioritize the classes you absolutely can not afford to slack in at all.  To bring your grade up, get in touch with your teacher and ask if there is anything you can do if you don’t already know.  Do not be afraid to communicate with your teacher. They are there to help. The worst that can happen is they don’t email you back.  If for some reason your teacher is not willing to help, reach out to your peers. Chances are they need help too and you can help each other out as well.

Don’t stress too hard.  Self care is important.  If you don’t feel 100 then you can’t make a 100.  Make sure to fit as much sleep as possible into your studying.  Your brain will not do what it needs to do to help you answer questions if you are getting very little sleep.  Take my word for it.  It might seem easy to pull an all-nighter and study for your exam the next day, but it will be pretty much worthless when you keep blanking out because you can’t even read the question straight.  Also, try to get proper meals in and drink plenty of water.  I know, it seems like your brain is so needy.  Your brain is responsible for a lot of you though so it’s  worth it to do everything you can to make your mind feel fresh.

This is probably the last thing teachers want me to say as advice to students but, grades are not that deep.  Grades only become a problem when you are wasting your potential.  Teachers can sense when their students are working hard and if they are trying hard to get a certain grade. If you don’t quite make it, it might not be your fault.  You may just not be cut out for that subject.  I promise your teachers also have subjects they suck at.

Everyone, stay healthy and happy and good luck on your finals.  You got it.
