Before break started, the Puente classes had the Puente Alumni’s visit for a period to talk about their college experience. This was held as a class at the Little Theatre. We gathered around to listen and ask questions. They gave us a brief description on their major, what year they graduated, and the college they attend. Also, there were a variety of college students that come to visit so we can relate to their life experience or know more about the major or the college that person went to. It’s where information can be given out and one on one conversations can happen.
Puente is a program that guides students to attend a 4 year college and maintain a good grades. It pushes students to take college prep courses and prepare for AP Exams and the SAT/ACT.
Every year, there is a Puente Alumni Panel to give us an idea of how it is after high school. It’s for us to be motivated because they do explain the difficult parts about college.
The Panel was helpful for me because I do want to attend a 4 year university and I believe Puente does help a lot into leading that path for us. To have Puente Alumni’s come and talk and share their experience is highly appreciated. A lot of high school students don’t have the opportunities like those in the Puente program do. To be part of a program this helpful is an amazing opportunity in order to be prepared for college.
