November is the month of cancer awarness. For this awareness, men leave their fur growing for cancer patients who lose their hair. Even though it is mainly men who participate in this action, women are also able to do so as well. Participants could also donate their grown hair for cancer patients.
No Shave November is a non profit organization who raises money for cancer patients by selling merchandise such as bracelets and T-shirts. Last year the organization saved up to $1 million. No Shave November is open for donations. You can sign up to help cancer patients at no-shave.org.
This organization funds American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital which they give 80% of donations to each. NSN also is partnered with a few brands such as Beard Guys and American Eagle Outfitters.
This month is not only full of cancer awareness, but it also highlights the importance of diabetes awareness. For those of you who don’t have a clear understanding of this metabolic disease, there are two types.
Those with type one diabetes do not produce enough insulin for the cells of the body. This type is usually diagnosed in young children. People with type two diabetes, at first, contain a high amount of insulin in the pancreas, then later on, it starts to decrease to the point where glucose levels are too low.
Diabetes takes the life of an American every 3 minutes. In 2014, the amount of Americans with this disease was 29 million. The population of this metabolic disease is at high risk of majorly increasing. The World Health Organization found that there are more than 347 million people have diabetes.
