The Make-a-Wish club hosted their annual coin drive. In previous projects, it has been aimed at a few different foundations but for this time around, it will be focused more so on the Make-a-Wish foundation itself.
The meeting for the coin drive was on Wednesday, February 14 after school in room 457. During the meeting, coin cans were also distributed to the people who attended.
The coin drive will last for two weeks. It’s expected for the coin cans to be collected during the next meeting which occurred the end of this month. There was no specific goal of how much money should be raised. Make-a-Wish club president, Kristina La, stated that “any amount donated is greatly appreciated and after two drives, the club has collected almost $1300.” There will also be more coin drives in the future and they’re aiming to have at least 1-3 coin drives a year.
La has also announced that there will be a few projects coming up after the coin drive. There will be a donation drive where the club will collect items that will be given to the American Cancer Society thrift shop in Fremont. All profits earned will be donated right to the foundation. Also, members of the club will attend walks for cancer research and awareness that was similar to the East Bay Light the Night walk that occurred a few months ago.
If students weren’t able to attend the meeting, they can email Kristina La, the current Make-a-Wish club president or any other officer of the club. Any other questions students may have about the coin drive or upcoming projects, can be emailed to the club director, Jessica Ho, club president, or Mr. Boyd.
