On February 26, 2017, for the first time in history the Oscars had announced the wrong winners for the Best Picture award. Instead of La La Land, it was Moonlight that got the award.

It all started when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the winner of Best Pictures to the cast of La La Land. During their acceptance speech, the stage crew realized they gave Beatty and Dunaway the wrong envelope. Instead of Best Pictures, they were given a duplicate of Best Actress Awards. So everyone was in shock when it was Moonlight that won Best Pictures. This was the first time that an announcement mistake was made in the Oscars. It is because they didn’t end the ceremony with Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel. Now the stage crew are apologizing and doing damage control.

It is a shock to the audience and to the cast of both movies. Many were comparing this to when Steve Harvey announced the wrong winner for the Miss Universe pageant.
