The James Logan High School varsity football team is off to a great start of the 2015-16 season. The Mighty Colts defeated Tennyson High School on Friday, August 28, 2015. By the end of the 4th quarter, they had an outstanding score of 39-0.

In the first quarter, quarterback Rogelio Reyes made the first touchdown. The fantastic play amped up the crowd and the rest of the players. The first quarter ended with a score of 7-0.

Towards the end of the 4th quarter, Jamaria Young, cornerback, prevented Tennyson High School from making a touchdown, by tackling the offensive player on the 10-yard line.

While the end of the game wound up being 39-0, Jason Kelly, tight end and outside linebacker, states, “We made an extra point, but the referees needed glasses and thought we missed it, so it should have been 40-0.”

The last touchdown of the 4th quarter was made by wide receiver, Donovan Kimball. Kimball gave some insight after the game to a Colts tradition of running onto the field with a sledgehammer. Kimball stated, “The sledgehammer represents the hardest worker at practice and whoever the coach thinks was working hard carries it out.”

Captain Ahmari Davis, running back and safety, is always looking for areas to make the team stronger. Ahmari said ,“I think I did okay, but I think I can improve on my readings and with holding the ball more and on my tackles.”

“I think the most important thing is to win, and we got the win,” said Kelly. “It was nice that everyone got to get in, whether they were starters or not, everyone did their part.”

Friday night lights will appear again on September 4th, where Logan’s varsity football team will attempt to bring in another win against San Leandro High School at 7:00pm here at James Logan.
