Cats can be great companions; their independence, warmth, and high energy make them fit for either the laziest of days or as a cure to boredom. What’s better, is that this can now be for free

Mr.O’Donnell, the Intro to Statistics and Geometry teacher here at Logan, is giving away two cats, a twelve week old brother and sister pair. Princess, the girl, is an extremely affectionate yet fussy cat. Mr.O’Donnell described her as always complaining when trying to be carried to “meowing if she isn’t picked up.” She is the smallest of the cats, and was usually teased for it by the other cats, including her brother Gremlin. Princess prefers to avoid any sort of conflict and gets fussy at times, but Mr.ODonnell assures that she grows very loving once she gets comfortable. Gremlin, the boy, too started out rather shy and cold toward people, but has since “grown to be affectionate”. He’s the more athletic of the two, and very focused on whatever it is he’s doing.

The pregnant mother of the two, Evelyn, had been strayed in the cold for about a month before she was noticed, and IMG_6950had refused to come in when invited. After having three kittens: Princess, Gremlin, and Felix (not being given away), Mr.O’Donnell’s daughter was finally able to bring them in. But concern rose because the cats haven’t had communication with people for a month and he had to question himself, “Could we socialize them enough to give them away?” Luckily, the two have learned to accept a new home.

When I asked why he wanted to give them away, rather than keep them or put them in a shelter he replied that he already has six other cats and that in a pound, “They’d only have a week, then they’d kill them,” as unfortunate as that may seem, it is true and especially sad when considering the standards many people have when choosing which animals to rescue as he remarked, “They have to be super attractive or they’re done.” He stated he wanted to “do right by [his] cats,” and therefore would much rather have them be welcomed into a loving home. So, if you’re a cat lover, then maybe you’d be willing to take up his offer.
