It’s a new year here at James Logan High School. Students returned back to school last Tuesday, January 3rd, to start off what we know as ‘dead week’, the week before final exams in which teachers slow down with the assignments and let students study.
With finals coming up this week, students are stressing to finish up last minute assignments and are asking their teachers what they can do to raise their grades a little higher before they take their exams. Some, however, are not overly concerned. “I’m not even stressed about finals because I’m a senior and I’ve been through it three other times,’ Charlyn Corn, senior states, ‘Finals are overrated.”
The finals system at James Logan High School runs on a block schedule. On the first day of finals, students take exams for their 1st and 4th/5th period classes. The second day they take their 2nd and 6th period and on the last day they take their 3rd and 7th period finals. After the long week of studying and exams, Logan gives a 4-day weekend known as ‘semester break’, before students return in Semester 2.
Isabella Bacogiannis, senior, says, “It’s a good break after a long, stressful week.”
