loganwhiteredThe James Logan varsity football team had another successful win. The Colts defeated the San Ramon Valley High School wolves 24-17 on Friday, September 11, 2015.

The first quarter started with a bang. Cornerback, Jamaria Young shockingly intercepted the ball after Jason Kelly scored the first touchdown of the game.

Team captain, Ahmari Davis made many phenomenal plays. As he juked a player from San Ramon, Davis scored the first touchdown of the 2nd quarter which pushed the colts to lead 17-10 at halftime.

Ahmari feels that this game was a lot easier than the last. “They weren’t physical enough, they weren’t fast enough honestly,” says Davis. Ahmari also adds, “We’re just going to have to execute all of our plays for the next game.”

Young intercepted the ball right before San Ramon was called with a personal foul in the 4th quarter. This was where Davis scored a touchdown keeping Logan in the lead 24-10. Unfortunately for Logan, San Ramon intercepted the ball with 5:30 left of the game. The wolves scored a touchdown which left the final score to be 24-17.

There were many plays Logan could have used on SRV, but there was one specific play they had in mind. “We have a play called slam rap that we wanted to run against them that has been successful for the past 3 years,” says offensive guard and defensive tackle Jessy Mefford, “We just set them up for the pass. We’re faster than they are, and they just couldn’t stop us tonight.”

Wide receiver, Donovan Kimball, agrees with Davis saying, “This game was not really as difficult as the last two, but at the same time, every game is going to be tough, so we took this game like how every game is going to be.”

Free safety, Hudson Coats says, “I just feel that we went out there and fought hard. This team and the last team, they both came with their hardest. We came with our hardest and we just need to come on top this time.”

Jason Kelly states, “I think that we played a lot more physical this game.” Kelly said. “Overall we got the same thing we got last week, which was the win. We’ve just got to keep getting better.”

The Logan Colts will attempt to bring home another win against Clayton Valley Charter High School on Friday, September 12, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Clayton Valley. So far the Colts are 3-0 while the Clayton Valley Eagles are 2-1.
