For the last two years in the Mission Valley League, Moreau Catholic’s basketball team has been winning the title. However, this year, James Logan has been hungry for the league championship and defeated Moreau in their first contest against each other at home by a score of 66-56.
The home game was crazy, with an electric atmosphere. Every time Logan scored, the Logan parents and students went crazy. You could literally feel the energy in the gym.
Noah Conner, senior starting point guard for Logan, said, ”I had the first basket of the game; it was a three pointer and everyone on the stands went crazy. I loved that game I don’t think I’ve ever experienced anything like that. It felt awesome though, playing in front of all those people and performing really well; I finished with 21 points. It was a hard fought win for our team and it was a little chippy and physical on the court at times, but we played through it and had a very good game.”
Anthony Carlos, senior role player for Logan, expressed, “It felt good being a part of that game; we practiced for that game all week and our gameplan worked very well against Moreau. It was really fun celebrating the win in the locker room. We all knew how big this game was to us; Moreau is a very talented team but we overcame them and came out with the win. The start of the game was insane–it was like we couldn’t miss, it felt like everything was dropping. As a team we went into the game very confident, we already knew we were going to win.”
After the game, things got a bit out of hand as the teams shook hands, but everything was kept under control. You could tell it was a rivalry game. It will be interesting to see the next of these two teams’ matchup at Moreau Catholic next time.
