The James Logan “Of Books and Pens” club has been working to host a book drive on the school campus. We sat down with the club’s co-presidents Simran Kalkat and Sukhmani Batra and asked them a few questions about the book drive and the people involved.
Q: What is the book drive about?
A: We collect books from students and give them to other students who are in need of books.
Q: Have you organized the book drive?
A: We did one last year which was a big success. We gave 120 books away in only three minutes. So we are doing it again at the school library a week before winter break and planning to do it at the union city library
Q: How did you organize it?
A: We started collecting books two years ago and we wanted to start at the time but we did not do one until last year.
Q: What will the book drive achieve?
A: We want students to read books over winter break and give books back to the community and share the love.
Q: Who else is involved?
A: Mr. Ellison the US History and LGBT studies teacher is the club adviser. Ms.Colburn and Ms.Chakrabarti at the James Logan library and some at the Union city library. Also we received a lot of support from teachers.
If you want to read during Winter break attend the book drive. There is a wide selection of books to choose from, but make sure to come by early because books might run out fast.
