The James Logan Colts and Newark Memorial Cougars have always held a grueling sports rivalry dating back for decades. From Softball, Football, and other respectable sports, each game between the two schools as always erupted into a clash between two titans.

Coming into the game, the Colts we’re looking for a redemption victory after their suffering a stunning loss back on January 11th, by a score of 58-53. The crowd was looking to be in favor of Newark however, as they had home court advantage and we’re roaring with excitement.

The first half of the game was a low scoring affair as the score was a measly 15-16, with Newark up by 1 point. The game was sluggish and filled with turnovers, as both teams could get nothing going for them offensively.

The entire game game was plagued with sloppy turnovers and poor shooting performances. By halftime the score was only 26-24 in favor of Newark, which was highly unlike either teams to be kept to such low standards offensively. At halftime it was crucial that the Colts make adjustments and come out with a better plan and higher intensity.

It wasn’t until the 4th quarter that Logan finally started to find their offensive rhythm with the help of Brah’jon Thompson, a standout Sophomore Point Guard, who hit multiple three pointers and starting a well needed spark for the Colts.

The upbeat in tempo commenced the team to start being more aggresive and in return the Colts got themselves to the free throw line where they gradually began to outscore Newark by a decent margin.

Newark’s offense began to crumble with the breaking point being Newark not being able to convert any of their free throws as efficiently as Logan. The final minutes of the game were filled with fouls against Newark who was desperately trying to revive their chances of winning.

The Colts came out as the undisputed victors winning by a score of 50-43 and catapulting them into the forefront of the MVAL standings with Moreau Catholic who will both battle it out this Friday night at Moreau starting at 7:30  for the MVAL title.
