During winter break, the James Logan girls wrestling team traveled to LA to compete for the Corona tournament as a pre-state preliminary and took 5th as a team with only 4 placers; one champion, one runner up, and two 3rd place medalists.
The girls wrestled at La Sierra University due to the Corona gym being re-done. The girls enjoy traveling to tournaments, especially away from home for them to bond with each other and have more fun.
Due to it being a pre-state tournament, only 4 girls competed for the preparation of state while the others were not ready to do so. All together, the girls are looking for their 5th NCS title and to place top 3 at state.
Champion and outstanding lower weight, Nguyet Tran, has wrestled for 5 years now and wouldn’t want to do anything else. She says, “It really teaches you discipline and makes you grow mentally and physically stronger.” With this being her last year, she also concludes that wrestling has changed her perspective on things in a good way.
Although the girls wrestling team has been decreasing throughout the years from seniors leaving and new wrestlers that come and go, the team will continue its legacy of hard work and dedication and will also say farewell to this year’s seniors. This season will be one to remember!
