Extreme laughter broke out two Fridays ago at another improv show from our Drama Club here at James Logan’s Little Theatre.  It took place in the little theater at 6 and was over by 7:30. This time some new cast members were introduced from the last time as well as returning improvisers, giving us some variety in talent and sense of humor.

Once again there were several games, all different from the last ones. These included ones where the audience took many of their items and placed it on stage for the members to create a skit with. In another game, a skit would be set up then repeated each time with reduced time, and many more.

The new performers worked well with the previous ones, bouncing jokes off of each other and bringing a fresh energy to the scenes. My personal favorite skit was one where the “genre” of the scene changed each time while still remaining the same skit, going from romantic comedy to horror- showing the acting range the performers were capable of. Another was one where a pair of members had to plug their ears while another acted a scene out, then trying to recreate the scene and guess its topic. Even if the team got it wrong, it only added to the comedy. The audience interaction was fun as well. Suggestions were being thrown out and used by the performers, as they put their own twist on them. I find that improv comedy overall allows for an abundance of creativity to be expressed and tested out, and that’s always a great outlet whether or not the audience receives it well.

Overall, it was another enjoyable experience that people were happy to support. The performers were also very appreciative. Once the show ended, one of them thanked the audience for coming, saying it was “one of the biggest turnouts [he’s] ever seen”.
