When any of us thinks of pizza we think of a pie with cheese, sauce, and maybe pepperoni. But teens in other countries don’t eat the same like of pizza that Americans do.
Chicken curry Pizza from Japan, Greek arugula, fig and goat cheese pizza, chocolate pizza from Belgium, Danish edam cheese potato pizza, Polynesian Pineapple and BBQ Chicken Pizza …… to name a few!
These are just some of the pizzas teens can make and eat at the Pizzas Round the World Camp for Teens, scheduled over winter break: Monday – Wednesday, December 28th – 30th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The program takes place in the main hall of the Weekes Community Center, 27182 Patrick Ave, Hayward.
Cooking Round the World, the educational sponsor, offers teens the opportunity to learn about countries around the world by cooking and eating. During the 3-day Pizzas Round the World class, teens, ages 13 – 18, will learn cooking skills while experiencing a country’s culinary flavors.
Aside from pizza, students will also make a salad from a different country of the day. Following the creation of the pizzas and salad, everyone feasts as a group. Discussion ensues about how the flavors of the day’s pizzas are indicative of the different countries.
The program is 100% hands on. Everyone peels, dices, slices, minces, etc. There will also be a daily cooking demonstration. Teens who participate will walk away with new cooking skills, great recipes they can try at home, and a desire to see the world!
Cost is $160 for Hayward residents. Class size limited to 15 teens. Cooking Round the World is a nut free company.
