The track and field program began the 2018 season with its first practice on February 5th. With the number of athletic PE kids in track and field doubling, there is much to be anticipated for the upcoming meets.

This year’s season will have a shift in leadership, as the old head coach, Lee Webb, is stepping down to coach only the distance group, allowing a gradual transfer in management. The new responsibility of directing the program will be given to Aaron Oliver.

Attending the first day of practice is mandatory for the team, “as it shows their dedication,” says Coach Webb.

Many athletes who have been part of the program in previous years have been training hard even before the season, and are eagerly looking toward to the first day to display their skills.

“I want to see how much I have improved since last year on the first day, since I have been working hard during offseason,” said Samnang Lim, a junior in sprints group.

“The first day of practice will hopefully be cool but it will also be crowded because many freshmen think they are fast, so they will join,” said Noel Austria, a junior in the distance group.

When asked about how the new management with coach Oliver could affect this season compared to previous years, Carlos, a junior in throwers group, said that “[there] shouldn’t be too much of a difference, [since] coach Webb [is] still here to help.”

Like all the hardworking track and field athletes, we hope this season will be a promising one with many victories. Go Colts!
