On September 10th our James Logan Colts competed against the Monte Vista Mustangs in our very own home stadium on a warm Friday night. Unfortunately, the team fell short with a final score of 25-14. Before halftime, Logan maintained a steady lead. However, Monte Vista moved ahead after halftime and held on until the end.

“We could have given more effort,” Head coach Eddie Smith said. “My key to victory is giving max effort, positive communication, and body language, and playing for the brotherhood that we have. Last game we did not consistently play for the brotherhood nor did we give max effort and have positive body language.”

The Colts started quick, scoring the first touchdown on a nine-yard pass from senior quarterback Marcus Sanders to senior running back Khalid Robinson. Then, after a touchdown pass by the Mustangs to tighten the score at 7-6, senior wide receiver Angelo Forbes extended the lead on a 78 yard touchdown pass. Forbes grabbed a short pass at the line of scrimmage from Sanders, made a defender miss, and then outran the defense to the end zone to put the Colts up 14 to 6 at halftime.

The second half was a different story as Monte Vista scored three touchdowns and held the Colts scoreless for the final two quarters. The Colts’ defense had three turnovers but couldn’t stop the combination of running and receiving from seniors Adam Wright and Cole Boscia despite having a strong game plan.

“The plan starts off on the field. As a team we need to get together and build a better bond because with a better bond comes a better play,” senior Nino Gama said. “I do think we have to learn to balance our own lives off of the field.”

After losing to the Heritage Patriots last Friday, the team sits at 0-4. But as the team practices and progresses there is hope for a better result in the next game against the Freedom Falcons on September 24th. The Junior Varsity game starts at 4:30 PM  and Varsity starts at 7 PM.

“We made a few mistakes, but it is fixable,” senior Rylan Anicete said. “We are still early in the season.”
