FOGcon is hosting a student writing contest for a free membership to their next con.
The Friends of the Genre (FOG) con is held every year, and focuses on themes in speculative fiction. Guests to the con range from artists to scientists.
The contest is open to San Francisco Bay Area students currently enrolled in high school, at a two-year or four-year college, or university. FOGcon will select one high school winner and one university winner.
To enter the contest, each student must submit a previously unpublished story that consists of 3,000 words or fewer and addresses the FOGcon 2016 theme, Transformations.
Entries may be in any genre – from fantasy to hard science fiction to horror – that falls within the broad boundaries of speculative fiction. The first page of your story must include your first and last name, mailing address, phone number, email address, and the school at which you are currently enrolled. Also include a one-paragraph biography of yourself along with your submission.
Send entries in either Microsoft Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (*.rtf) as an attachment to contest@fogcon.org.
The winning writers will each receive a free membership to FOGcon 2016, an opportunity to publicly read their stories as part of the convention programming, and an opportunity talk to a professional writer.
The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2016. Winners will be announced February 1, 2016.
