Fashion Columnist
Welcome to a new feature on the Courier Fashion Column: the Monthly Featured Store, where I review and critique some of the most popular shopping destinations for Logan students. The debut of this feature showcases Hennes & Mauritz, more commonly known as H&M. The store began as a small boutique in Sweden, and has since expanded to more than 3,500 locations around the world.
The H&M location nearest James Logan is at the Stoneridge Shopping Center in Pleasanton, about a 25 minute drive from Union City. However, Logan students are still willing to go the distance to shop at the popular fashion retailer. One reason that students, as well as their parents, are willing to shop at H&M is the quality of their merchandise. Amma Prempeh, a senior at James Logan and frequenter of H&M says, “Their clothes are pretty long-lasting compared to Forever 21. They won’t last you for life, but they won’t fall apart on the first wash.”
Fortunately for Logan H&M lovers, the company plans to open a new location at the Newpark Mall in Newark by the end of 2015. The mall’s renovation will be accompanied by several big renovations, including a new AMC IMAX theater.
While they do regularly design formal collections and party attire, my favorite part about H&M is their basics. No, I am not referring to the people who shop there. I love their plain white tees, black leggings, and other everyday outfit essentials. H&M maintains affordable prices while still providing a variety of styles and sizes in simple pieces.
I strongly believe that everyone, regardless of gender or style, needs a good white t-shirt, a black one, and a grey one. Solid colored t-shirts are incredibly easy to dress up and have been spotted in the street style of countless fashion moguls. Pieces like this are affordable, versatile, and gives a good fit on all body shapes.
Today H&M is releasing their Studio Spring/Summer 2015 collection, inspired by the “lazy days and long nights in Miami and Palm Springs.” The collection can be found in stores and online at hm.com.
