Beginning on December 1st this new competitive season offers players competitive points, sprays and player icons.
As the current season comes to a close, the developers of Overwatch took the off-season as a time to tweak the competitive play system. An example would be after the ten required placement matches, you might start off on a lower position due to balancing issues. Players can expect to receive a certain amount of currency for reaching certain ranks during the course of the season. Players can also expect their SR to be reset but not too drastically. This is because blizzard wants to give us a fresh start. Since Symmetra has also been reworked and tweaked, she now has been given something that no other character has: a choice of two ultimates. Symmetra can now choose from a teleporter or a shield generator.
My experience with this new season has been great so far. I played my ten placement matches and made it into the gold division. I felt that the players I matched up with after the placement matches were in the same skill level as me. Competitive games are still scary because this is my first season and players in my league are punished for losing. But these are things a player has to deal with to earn competitive points.
The previous competitive season offered players a season 2 spray and icon. There were also some changes made to the competitive point system. Instead of every player receiving a set amount of points, people were given points based on their rank. Bronze would get 100 points and Grandmaster would fetch player 1000. The only use of these points is to buy players golden guns that are available for every character.
