With so many boba places around Logan, it can be hard to decide on which one is the best. We decided to try taro milk smoothies at Tapioca Express, Green Bubble, and Happy Lemon to decide which one is the best.

Tapioca Express was the smallest of the three priced at $4.00, Green Bubble was the tallest priced at $4.75, and Happy Lemon was sized right in the middle priced at $4.50. We decided to rate the drinks on our 1st impressions of them, pearl quality, and overall taste of the drink rated 1-5 (1 being the worst and 5 being the best).

1Tapioca Express

Liyah: The design on the cup was cute and small. It was also easier to mix because it was blended all the way and the cup didn’t override the straw compared to Green Bubble, the cup was taller than the straw, and Happy Lemon wasn’t blended all the way. The boba was sweet but still a little undercooked, whereas Green Bubble was softer. The Taro smoothie part of it was very sweet, sweeter than the other two, but it tasted like kids Pediasure protein drink, and kind of tasted like the smell of a Lavender Febreeze spray. That wasn’t the taste I was expecting, but my overall rating is a 4 out of 5.

Alyssa: This cup had a holiday design with red, green, and snowflakes around it that stood out a lot more than Happy Lemons’. The drink itself had an artificial purple color, but it made the drink seem more exciting and like it was going to taste better. The first sip I had was kind of confusing. It tasted good but reminded me of a vanilla bean candle you’d smell in a Bath and Body Works. Despite that, this was the best tasting out of all 3 drinks. The pearls were very chewy and the drink had a very fresh, sweet taste to it. Overall I’d give this a 4 out of 5 and would buy a drink from here again, just maybe not the taro flavor.

2Green Bubble

Liyah: This drink stood out to me the most because of the white lid, and it was bigger in size compared to Tapioca Express and Happy Lemon. The color of the drink was fairly lighter than Tapioca Express but still darker than Happy Lemon. The boba tastes very good, it was way bigger and sweeter than Tapioca Express and Happy Lemon. Although the boba tasted good, the taro smoothie part of it didn’t taste as sweet, it kind of tasted bland, but also mixed with a little perfume…but still bland. It also had a chalky taste, but liquidy and smooth at the same time, not as sweet as Tapioca Express but way sweeter than Happy Lemon. Overall, the boba was the best of the three but I rated it a 3 out of 5 for the overall drink, and I wouldn’t purchase it again.

Alyssa: This drink definitely stood out the most because of how tall it was compared to the others. The purple was a lot lighter than Tapioca Express, but the boba was a lot bigger than the others. The first sip was very disappointing. The drink tasted pretty bland and we both thought it was kind of chalky. It reminded me of a drink my grandma makes called, “chocomíl”. The boba was the best out of the three and wasn’t too soft or too hard; it had the best consistency. However, I definitely wouldn’t spend $4.75 for a just ok drink.  My overall rating is a 3 out of 5 and this would not be the 1st place I think of when I want to get boba.

3 Happy Lemon

Liyah: I found that the cup looked very cute with their own Happy Lemon animation on the film of the cup, and it was easy to carry. The boba was kind of hard like Tapioca Express, and not as soft as Green Bubble. I was excited to try it because it’s a new Boba place in the area but I wasn’t pleased with the taste. It had a sweet taste to it, but not that sweet. It also had a chalky taste to it and sort of tasted like I was drinking a sweet mashed potato in a drink, with Taro chunks. It wasn’t as blended as much as the others and wasn’t as cold as the others. Overall Rating: 1 out of 5…I would not purchase this drink ever again.

Alyssa: At first I was excited to try this drink because I’ve always seen it on people’s social media posts and the cups always had cute designs on their lid. The lids did not disappoint and the two drinks had different designs on them which were fun to look at. The character on the cup was surrounded with white snowflakes that added a nice holiday touch to it. The drink itself did not look as appetizing as the others. It was white and at the bottom near the boba, there was a brown liquid that didn’t mix into the white which made me a little uneasy about it. I tried mixing it around before I drank it and once I took a sip there turned out to be chunks of taro that tasted like an old, grainy apple. Needless to say, it was awful and the boba was so small that it didn’t seem worth the extra 50 cents I could save by getting Tapioca Express. I’d give this drink a 1 out of 5 and would not get this drink again.
