The ASVAB is a test that assesses multiple skills that range from mathematics to mechanical knowledge. ASVAB stands for test will be the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It is meant to assist students in exploring academic strengths as well predict future fitting careers. This exam is administered once a year by the Civilian Department of Defense.
The ASVAB is an annual free exam, but it’s offer is limited to juniors and seniors. A common misconception about the exam is the test is administered by the United States Military, and directly related to the military recruiters often spotted around campus. However the ASVAB is given by the Civilian Department of Defense (DOD), who do not pass on student information, apart from contact information, to military recruiters.
Ms Barbara Hart, the College and Career Center Tech offers statistics regarding the 155 Class of 2014 seniors who opted to take the ASVAB test on either the Fall 2012 or 2013 test date: 91% of the seniors enrolled in accredited, degree-granting programs. 5%, or a total of 7 seniors from the class of 2014 who participated in the ASVAB joined the United States Military upon graduation.
The ASVAB is to be taken in two separate parts. The scored test is administered on Monday, November 3, from 8:30-12:30 in the Al Rodrigues Gymnasium. It will take students about 3 and ½ hours to complete the 8 test areas: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Mathematics Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto and shop Information, Mechanical Comprehension. An interpretation session of the test results will take place in the computer labs on to separate Wednesday afternoons, November 12 for seniors and
November 19 for juniors.
Students are required to pick up a permission slip in the Career Center. Permission slips are to be signed by parents and 1st-5th period teachers. Slips are due in the Career Center by Wednesday, October 29.
