GEazyWIDOCoverToday Gerald, or G-Eazy released his brand new album When It’s Dark Out. If you haven’t heard of him yet, I’m sure you would soon anyways. He’s a rapper from here, the Bay Area, more specifically Oakland. He sets himself far apart from a lot of other rappers today in the industry. First off, he is a white male. His first album that he released last year, These Things Happen, made number three on the Billboard 200 charts, so this new album should be able to beat that. The first time I heard him I thought Wow. This guy is really good. I also thought it was cool that he’s from over here. We’ve had a lot of rappers get big from the Bay Area like Mac Dre, Sage the Gemini, and The Jacka. I think G-Eazy fits with those artists well. The album features a lot of artists like Chris Brown, Big Sean, E-40 and even Keyshia Cole.

I was excited to hear how the rest of this album was going to sound after hearing the single, Me, Myself, and I. That song really hit me, in the best way. It basically talks about his life in the limelight. He doesn’t hate it, but he’s also overwhelmed by it all. The song features Bebe Rexha, another amazing artist and writer.

The first song is called Intro, only a minute long. It starts off as an instrumental but then G-Eazy comes in towards the end, saying what sounds like a monologue. It does set up the mood for the next song Random. The beat goes pretty hard. He pretty much raps about him making it big isn’t random, and that he worked on it.

One of Them features popular artist Big Sean. The song is more about materialistic things. It’s a great song though. Drifting featuring Chris Brown and Tory Lanez is more of  chill song. G-Eazy doesn’t come into the song till towards the end which he closes perfectly. Chris Brown’s vocals really compliment the song.

Of All Things featuring Too $hort so far is my favorite. It’s ‘fire,’ as what most people would describe music as nowadays. The beat flows and it’s a song you can nod your head to. A lot of his music is like that but I enjoy this one a lot in particular. There isn’t much of a message like there is in Me, Myself, and I. The only thing it really says is you can be whatever you want, just don’t be a hater.

Order More featuring Starrah is a party song. Starrah starts the song, then G-Eazy comes in with some obvious auto tune, but not to the point where it’s like T-Pain. The song just talks about ordering more drinks, money, girls, and stuff of that nature. The beat is mellow and it has a good flow. Calm Down is next on the list. No one featuring, just him. It’s basically about how he’s coming up in the music industry and to be afraid. There’s no call outs but he talks being the best rapper since Eminem. Don’t Let Me Go featuring Grace starts off pretty creepy. Grace starts it off with a nice intro. It’s another chill song.

You Got Me is more of an aggressive song, the main line being, B!tch you got me f*cked up. Even though it is a bit repetitive it’s a good song. The bass is deep. What If is a lighter song, featuring Gizzle. Basically he asks the question, What if? It questions most of the world and the industry. It makes you really think. Gizzle did well on his part, adding edge to the song. Everything Will Be OK featuring the lovely Kehlani is a sad love song. She opens the song with her sweet voice. You can hear the hurt in G-Eazy’s voice as he raps. At first it feels like it’s about a couple but it turns into something even more depressing.

Overall there are seventeen songs, but I just mentioned the few. The whole album is worth a listen. It’s available on Itunes right now for 10.99. He has also posted the audio to songs on his YouTube channel.
