An affordable option for a retro-style guitar, the Danelectro 12SDC unifies an extraordinarily wide range of guitarists with its rich-layered sounds.
The feel and playability of a 12-string depends on getting many factors working together, and this is an instrument that wants to stay in tune. While the vintage Danelectros tend to suffer from under-designed bridges, this fully adjustable chrome unit sits solidly on the body. In a supporting role behind vocals, it fills out the sound stage, adding body and richness. However, it may not be a sound you want to use all the time.
The neck pickup offers a deeper voice, where more of the acoustic character comes across. While there’s a tendency to run this DC59 into a clean amp, a little work is sometimes required if you’re looking to emulate the sounds of The Beatles or The Byrds.
Holding a guitar like this is certainly a pleasure. After watching Jimmy Page use this guitar to play Kashmir, White Summer and many other songs in DADGAD, many will surely desire this exciting guitar.
Although the price of seems daunting, believe it or not, it’s a great beginners guitar. Although it has twelve strings, there is a regular six string version. However, if you are not confident as a beginner, a ten dollar guitar at a garage sale will do just fine.
