March 4th, 2020 is James Logan High School’s second Blood Drive of the year. The first one was held on November 13th during the first semester. According to the leadership team, the attendance was higher than usual, with more volunteers willing to donate to the Red Cross.

The Blood Drive is an opportunity for students and teachers to help a great cause. Donating blood allows for those in need to get the type and amount they need, and always, the more blood the better. From local hospitals and research centers to trauma centers outside of this country, your blood could be the pint that saves a life or even multiple lives. If it’s your first time donating, after your donation is finalized, a donor card will be mailed to you and will show that you are a certified blood donor, which can be useful for future situations. It also feels amazing to know that you made a difference, that you helped someone else in need. It’s quite the deed.

No need to be scared. Unless you have trypanophobia, there is nothing scary about attending the Blood Drive. There is usually a film playing in the waiting area, along with a few snacks. The assistants make you feel comfortable and talk to you throughout the process. They give you a blanket and a stress ball (if needed), and you are still allowed to use your phone to watch videos, listen to music, or do whatever you want. They want you to feel at ease and relaxed, so their number one priority is making sure you achieve just that. After you’re finished, you are supplied with snacks, beverages, and even a T-shirt to take home and show off!

The blood drive is completely free to those willing to participate or donate. There are certain requirements to donate. You need to be 16 years of age and meeting a certain weight. If you meet those requirements, you may sign up to be involved.
