As we’re getting closer and closer to graduation there has been a rise in senioritis. Many students cannot wait to graduate and are constantly complaining. Although this is considered routine for teachers, some are worried that a significant number students might not graduate due to skipping or lack of effort.
Students who were asked about this issue and how they got senioritis explained that it was due to their easy schedules.
“This semester, I only take half of the school day. That means I’m only in class for two periods. It’s gotten really boring so I’m getting more lazy,” Natalie Lopez, a senior, said.
On the other hand, Heather Tu caught senioritis from her poor grades. “My grades started falling second quarter, so I lost some motivation,” she said.
It may also infect students who are excited for graduation. Alex Nguyen told the Courier, “Just the idea of graduating in a few months and the lack of homework makes me tired,”
Symptoms are serious for those who have been infected with senioritis. For many, procrastination and sleepiness has made a huge impact on their ability to function.
“Overall, I sort of lost the ability to care,” stated Natalie Lopez.
Other symptoms have proved to be very interesting, to say the least.
“I’ve been going through a shopping addiction,” Thu said. “I blew off some of my college money, and constantly have the urge to skip so I can visit the mall.”
As a precaution to prevent the infection of more seniors, students have provided some helpful tips.
“No matter how much you want to procrastinate, don’t. We have less than 3 months, just stay diligent” Nguyen said. Many students urged their fellow seniors to keep trying.
“Think about it, after 4th quarter we’re free. Just do your work and show up, and try to stay consistent,” Kristine Lumentigar added. Hopefully, these tips are helpful for keeping senioritis at bay until graduation.
