Compton rapper, YG, just released a short mixtape by the name of “Red Friday” on November 25, 2016. The tape consists of eight tracks, with “I Be On” featuring rapper 21 Savage.
After the summer release of his acclaimed “Still Brazy” album, YG continues to produce hit songs with catchy beats and simple yet hard hitting verses. While “Red Friday” was set out to release on November 25, the mixtape was leaked on multiple music sites before the intended date. YG expressed his frustration with the leak on twitter saying, “F*** DEF JAM.” Def Jam Recordings is the label under which the tape was released but the way it was leaked is not known. However many people refused to listen to the leak and instead bought the official physical copies of YG’s tape for $100 each.
The mixtape itself is nothing special. While there are some tracks that’ll make you listen twice, none of them are major hits. The featured artists include Mitch, RJmrLA, and 21 Savage. While songs like “Get Out Feelin’s” and “One Time Comin’” are bangers, other tracks like “I Know” aren’t that interesting. However, it is a mixtape so expectations were not too high coming into this. While it’s not his best work, all of the songs and verses have that signature Los Angeles sound and keep you listening.
