Day go by and soon, we will be on our own. No one is going to clean up your trash and keep you in check. No more reminding to bring a pencil to class and forcing you to run a timed mile. Administration hypothetically takes our hands and walks us through life until we walk across that stage.
Teachers are able to interact with students, providing experiences and information everyday. CSTS linger among our high school, and sometimes we might not realize the good in what they do.
Since 1992, there had been approximately 387 school shootings in the U.S, according to StopTheShootings.org. The age group of 10-19, has the highest percentage of 59% that had passed away from a shooting.
Administration carry a responsibility to protect us from these similar situations until the last bell rings. They do so by informing us when to perform a code of safety (Red , Black or Blue). Arlene Gonzalez, a former CST at JLHS, informed us about daily activities and benefits of being a CST
JLC: “How do you protect the school?”
AG: “Well, checking I.D’s is one. Making sure visitors sign in.. Try to keep kids from fighting.”
JLC: “What else do you do?”
AG: “Help kids to and from class..Help into classrooms when you leave your stuff in there. Patrol the area, make sure it’s safe. Try to keep you guys from following the rules.”
JLC: “Are there any fights lately?”
AG: “Not that i know of..it’s great.”
JLC: “Have you seen any bullying around campus?”
AG: “Haven’t seen any, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen..Most we have is kids walking around campus during class.”
JLC: “What made you want to be a CST?”
AG: “..Don’t wanna do meetings anymore..don’t wanna do any of that stuff. Just wanna clock in..do as little talking as possible..do my job..boom. Don’t really have to work..”
