The book Gone Girl is a perfect novel for the fans of mystery, suspense, and crime. If you aren’t fond of any of those genres, trust me, once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down. Not only is this book a New York Times Bestseller, but it was also made into a motion picture featuring Ben Affleck and Oscar nominated actress Rosamund Pike. Other stars feature in it were Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, and Emily Ratajkowski.
The novel follows Nick Dunne in solving the case of the ‘gone girl,’ his wife, Amy Dunne. He gets a call from a concerned neighbor talking about how the front door of his house was wide open. Not thinking, it was a big deal, Nick leaves the bar he owns to find that Amy was in fact gone, missing. This news of her disappearance effects not only her weary husband but grabs a lot of people’s attention, after all, she is ‘Amazing Amy.’ In the book, Amy is not only known for practically the only type of beauty in the town, but she is also the face in the book series she wrote, ‘Amazing Amy.’ This draws even more attention from not just locals but all of her loving fans also. Amy was not completely gone though, she left clues, like a treasure hunt that she does every year for their anniversary. Nick never figures it out. At first Nick seems to be cooperating with police at first but suspicion rises once there’s a look into Nick and Amy’s relationship. Were they really in love? How ironic is that she happened to disappear on the day of their fifth anniversary?
This novel makes you question if you really know your significant other. You get both point of views from this book. Every chapter changes from Nick to Amy. Both are very interesting to read. They both slowly unfold the real truth. It keeps your mind working on all the different events happening that you won’t even see a plot twist coming. Is Nick totally innocent or is it just one of those cases where the husband kills the helpless wife? If you weren’t a fan of those genres I mentioned earlier, are you interested in this book now? It’s not a long or complicated book to read, it’s actually quite easy. Plus, it’s entertaining. Once you’re done, you can watch the movie which is equally good.
