16 year old Vanessa Mejia was selected as one of the few girls to be selected to the United States Olympic developmental soccer team. The 5 day long tryouts took place at Linfield College, Oregon where a lot of hard work and effort was put in. Around 100 girls showed up for this try out and it was very competitive and intense. Being selected was an astounding accomplishment for Mejia and her soccer career.

“This is definitely what I think about when I set my goal of improving in soccer each year” said Vanessa, “I feel like this is the first step to really getting myself out there in my soccer career.”

She is very appreciative of the people around her who have encouraged and motivated her to get where she is. “If I had to thank someone it would be my dad. He’s always pushing me to be better and has been training me since I was little. He never let me give up and I appreciate that now,” said Vanessa. She also thanks her team and coaches that have trained her and helped her stand out to colleges and receive more opportunities.

Vanessa Mejia hopes she will keep improving and make an even bigger accomplishment next year. She has been playing soccer almost her whole life and has put her sweat and tears into that field. She intends to keep grinding until she gets where she wants to be.
