UC Berkeley held its presentation at James Logan High School on October 6, and answered many students’ concerns regarding applications.
The time for planning the defining future education is upon us. As potential students, we are as important to colleges across the nation as they are to us. The Berkeley information session prepared all of us with opportunity and useful knowledge for application process.
UC Berkeley held its presentation on October 6 during the second period of the day, and the host “Grandpa Tim” answered questions of both Junior and Senior students. Brochures were provided, detailing all the graduate and undergraduate majors and programs. Tim assured everyone that grade point averages and numbers do not necessarily mean everything in the applying process at a school like Berkeley.
“Berkeley gives a chance for students like me who were, ‘okay,’” he admitted. As he inquired “who here has B’s?”, several students raised their hands. Then he continued, “And that’s okay, B’s and C’s still tell us something- maybe you had a lot going on in your social life at the time or something (…) This presentation isn’t here for judgement, it’s to give you information about what you can do for your future.”
Students then asked questions about the specifics. “What’s the rate of difficulty for transferring,” asked a Junior attendee, “Well, it depends on the specific program you want to transfer into, Berkeley has several colleges within it, so you’d be admitted to the main campus first and then fill out the transfer information for whatever area of study you’re going into from there,” answered Tim. Questions continued until the third period start-bell rang.
