As college admissions are slowly announced, there has been a constant stir of emotions from the class of 2021. Specifically, with UCs and CSU applications being submitted months ago, seniors have been sitting on anxiety and questions. Due to the current pandemic, how are colleges going to accept students differently? What other values will they look into? How will a student stand out compared to others? This overflow of emotions affects every person differently. How are seniors at Logan handling these uncertainties?
The idea of college is something that every student dreams of. This is the path where they will be able to pursue their career and their passions. However, many are going through a wave of ups and downs. There is a lot of excitement, but a lot of anxiety as well. “I’ve always known the college admissions process has always been very random and unpredictable in the past,” states James Logan senior, Gabby Lorico. “With the challenges and changes the pandemic has created within that process, my concern has also grown.”
Students are concerned how colleges will handle admissions this year. The admission process itself is already a difficult challenge for many, on top of that the pandemic has caused many students to miss out on vital opportunities that would arise throughout the school year.
“I’ve learned to just keep doing my best with my applications and remember that I’ll end up where I’m meant to be by the end of college acceptances.” Lorico continues, “Experiences like living on campus, meeting new people, and living in a different city makes me eager to go to college.”
Despite whatever the situation may be, Lorico stays confident with what she has submitted and is excited about the idea of college. This is something that everyone should consider. The application process will only lead you to the college you are meant to be at. No matter where you end up, the college experience is something that should be cherished and enjoyed. This year may be different, but the pursuit of higher education should still be something we look forward to.
College applications have caused many to rethink what they want to do with their lives, causing an endless amount of stress and worry for many. After submitting them, many feel that unease starts to dissipate due to them finally finishing them. “It felt so relieving to submit them [college applications], but I felt like I had a lot of remorse at the same time,” senior Jenelle Juco states. ‘It’s been significantly harder to complete assignments ever since though.”
College applications have always been a tedious process every student must go through. Filling out grades or writing essays is a stressful task one must do. The pressure of knowing that what they’re filling out can determine their own future is overwhelming.
“I’ve honestly been looking forward to this moment for a long time.” Juco continues, “I feel like the chance to be free and independent will affect me in a positive way — and lead me to success mentally, physically, and academically.”
The circumstances may be awry, but moving onto college is still an opportunity many are looking forward to. The idea of graduating high school and moving onto college is something all students have dreamed of growing up. To finally be able to take that next step still brings excitement every senior embraces.
This year may be dramatically different, but the thought of making new experiences, learning new ideas, and finding one’s self are some of the many things one will learn in college. This gives us hope to look forward despite the circumstances. We may be feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything that is going on, but the idea of furthering our academics and ourselves is something that we must aspire to in order to continue pushing forward.
