The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, made its way into the list of most popular books when it was produced as a movie and released in March of 2012. Hunger Games, the film, managed to make $155 million when it made its debut into the theaters.
The book follows the story of when 12 districts of the nation of Panem sends a boy and a girl, each between the ages of 12 and 18, into a nationally televised game where all 24 ‘tributes’ fight in an arena until there is only one survivor. The game is viewed as a cruel punishment on the districts by the government. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the tributes from district 12, make life changing decisions in the arena that angers the government.
After the Hunger Games release, fans of Suzanne Collins await the release of Catching Fire, the second book in the trilogy. Fans wait a long year until Catching Fire is released in 2009. Catching Fire follows the life of Katniss and Peeta after winning the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss and Peeta both sense that the government is after them because of the stunt they pulled in the arena. The government announces that the 75th Hunger Games will be special, because past winning tributes will be sent back into the arena for another round, meaning Katniss and Peeta will be fighting for their lives a second time.
Catching Fire ended with a cliffhanger, making fans more anticipated than ever for the release of Mockingjay, the last book in the trilogy.
Mockingjay will be split up into 2 parts. According to IMDB, Mockingjay Part 1 will be released in theaters on November 21st, 2014, while Mockingjay Part 2 will be released on November 20th, 2015.
