“Congratulations to the Graduating Class Of 2016.”
The words every senior is waiting to hear. The last words every senior hears in their high school. The last time they are in their home for the last four years from 8 to 3:30 five days a week. The last day they are Colts.
But how do you say goodbye to your home? Your home where you experienced all your first feelings, where you made you lifelong friends, where you decided to join a team, where you chose what you are going to do with you life. How do you leave that home? Well, you fill your home with moments.
Moments like when you were in PE your freshman year and you didn’t want to run, but you kept going because it was only PE. Or when you were so scared for that math test that you just started crying at 2 AM because you couldn’t do it anymore.
Senior year is filled with moments like Homecoming, Spirit Week, Sadies, Prom and of course the little things: Senior Panoramic, Grad Night, and the Senior Picnic. That’s really what makes up your senior year: the little things.
So, as your senior year fills up with memories, there are some important people who have made them happen. Yes, your friends are a key part of it, but what about the people who help organize them? I talked to your two-time Class President, Tyra Johnson, to ask her what it really means to be in the Class of 2016.
“I’m extremely proud to be president. I honestly wouldn’t have run for class president, I would have just gone to ASB if I didn’t. “ Tyra went onto explain how her two-time term helped created a better dynamic between her and her class because “they already know [her] and trust [her] judgment.” So I asked her about one little thing that every senior should be into, the senior panoramic!
My first question was “how have you gotten everyone involved? getting the word out to a class of around 1000 students has got to be crazy!” And she answered by saying, “I think with things like the panoramic, it’s much easier than skit and float, because these are things that as Seniors, we look forward to. Panoramic, Grad Night, Picnic, etc.
So it’s less trying to get people and more people trying to find out for themselves. In order to facilitate people finding out about things, we have to make announcements, send letters home and things like that.” Senior class, your memories wouldn’t be possible without your amazing officers.
The senior class president is beyond excited to make your senior year a year filled with little things.
So go experience your senior year and join your graduating class in the Stadium on February 10th at 2:00 pm afterschool, and experience the little things.
