Over the past few years, America has gotten a little more accepting of diverse sexuality. Now the LGBT community is expanding their beliefs in different ways in order to advocate open-mindedness and acceptance.

Last month, Target proposed to allow transgender people to use the restroom and fitting room of their preference.

Yes, it is true that this could cause troubling situations, but these are situations that could happen in any restroom. Who are we to judge? Furthermore, the fact that the majority is not raised to actually accept the human body for what it is, just shows how far America has to go.

When a transgender woman walks into the women’s locker room, certain women will feel negative emotions due to lack of education and/or experience of sexuality and the human body, and/or fear of getting raped. This could also happen to a transgender-male in a men’s restroom. However, there has not yet been any reports of rape, harassment, etc., especially at near stores locations.

Even so, petitions to boycott Target have been set forth. 700,000 people devoted a pledge to boycott the retail store, The American Family Association has gotten more than 900,000 signatures, and more than half a million from a radical Christian group, have been made, to name a few.

It is no surprise that our culture is not ready to allow for this privilege, but that is the process of change. The LGBT community is taking the steps needed to get people used to what soon will be a norm.

So far, Target stands to lose customers in order to stand up for the LGBT community.
