Logan students have begun to worry that our school isn’t making the right choices for the students financially. Evidently, there are items that are brand new in areas that didn’t need it, such as a new sign or carts for security to ride around on as opposed to better development in areas that really need it, such as bathrooms, classrooms, equipment and sports and club supplies. Students are feeling frustration and confusion as they wonder what is going on with the funds to better the school.

These questions from both parents and students are centered around worrying about the school’s funding decisions, especially after hearing stories  from their kids. Parents hear opinions on the buildings, supplies, equipment, classrooms, bathrooms, etc. Evidently, it is normal and valid for students to feel such emotions because they don’t believe they are heard  when they communicate with the faculty and staff regarding their concerns. Usually, it will be brushed aside with an “Okay, we will look into that.” Still, students don’t see any changes happening after confronting and speaking up for themselves and their school.

The main breaking point for students are the bathrooms, the time schedules for them, and the newly bought things around the school. Bathrooms have been brought to attention by a lot of students because of how they appear on the inside and what has not been updated to uphold sanitary conditions. Most have dirty floors with toilet paper and other things on the ground. There are not many soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers. The bathrooms also do not have a machine of pads and tampons for free for the women and girls at the school. There are schedules for when students can use the bathrooms because they are now being locked during class periods or lunches which causes students to wander around school looking for an open bathroom. At the same time, the pass to use them is only 10 minutes long. That gives no time while searching around the entire campus for a bathroom that is open. Additionally, there are new signs in the food areas near Colt Court which must have cost a considerable amount from school funding . They have also bought campus security officers entirely new golf carts for transportation around the school, even though they had carts beforehand that were still in good condition.

Another idea of where some funds can go is to better food options for students. Foods that are not undercooked, overcooked, frozen, or old. Students of Logan deserve a better food menu that can give them nutrients and energy for the rest of the school day. Many complain of certain things being wrong with the food; fish tacos or the veggies that they serve inside the cafeteria are examples.

Bringing awareness to these things and listening to what the students and kids are saying will have a better benefit for both. The students will feel heard because faculty and staff are taking into consideration what is best for the school. Simply improving the school environmentally will show a big impact on everyone.
