The James Logan High School World Guard is hardworking and determined. The people in the World Guard take their time to put in practice for very long hours.
“I do guard because it’s a fun experience. It’s something different from the normal sports people do. I also aspire to be a member in the World Guard my Sophomore year,”says Simran Singh (Open Guard Member 2016).
World Guard’s practice happens on the Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays of every week. This past week, their practice schedule was: Monday from 8-12pm, Wednesday from 1-6pm, Friday from 4:30-9:00pm, and on Saturday from 10-5pm.
Aside from rehearsal time outside of school, they also work during 7th period. In this winter season they have many competitions, and an even bigger one that they are preparing for in the month of April. This big competition is the WGi World Championships, and it’s held in Dayton, Ohio.
“The lengthy rehearsals are definitely not my favorite, although the work put into it pays off in the end. I decided to do color guard because it gives me something to do during my free time, and to keep me occupied. I’m very excited to perform at the arena at Ohio,” expresses Matthew Young (Rifle in the World Guard).
“I’m a bit sad that it’ll be my last day going to Ohio, and the last bit of my guard career. I also decided to do color guard because I found it a place for me to be myself,” says Aiko Pasion (Flag in the World Guard).
James Logan World Guard has taken first place at the WGI World Championships consecutively from 1999-2007. With the long hours of rehearsal that they put hard work into, they aspire to take first again the 2016 Championships. This Saturday, February 27th, the World Guard will be taking a trip to Fresno to perform their show, without the Open Guard.
