This year’s theme for the freshmen was Men in Black.
After watching and observing a show from the sophomores a day before, it was the freshman’s turn to perform their skit.
Like many of the returning students know, a skit uses the class theme (which is usually a movie) to create another version of that story taking place here at James Logan High School. In between the storyline they have various dance numbers that connect to the skit. There is usually some sort of lesson about doing well in school at the end.
The skit started out with a student who wasn’t doing too well in his classes. He later was shown in his room avoiding homework and watching tv. Then all of a sudden there’s a girl, who resembles one of his friends, telling him that he needs to train in order to become an agent. He obeys and goes through the training and is given a device that will help him later on. After all the training is over, he fights in a battle against an alien, and wins the fight.
The main character then learns the lesson that in order to get what you want, you have to work for it.
Most of us usually cut the freshman a bit of slack as this is their first year doing this, and that could be unnerving. But their skit wasn’t easy to understand. I felt that if you hadn’t seen any of the “Men in Black” movies it would’ve been even more confusing. I had seen the movies prior, so I just used my previous information to try and follow the story.
From what I was able to comprehend, the story wasn’t bad at all. Just the execution could’ve been improved.
All in all this was a nice little show, for it being their first time participating in skit.
