James Logan High School released the school wide homecoming theme to students on Wednesday, September 14. Many seniors were disappointed to learn that their last school spirit theme would be “Logan Goes To Hogwarts,” all revolving around the boy with the lightning scar- Harry Potter.
Some seniors responded to this by writing up a petition to change the theme to something else, such as the 90’s or Disney. Many seniors were outraged that their ASB officers chose Harry Potter to be this years theme
To their dismay, this petition was declined by Mr. Glaze, the leadership teacher. Glaze responded to all of this by saying “First off, I was the only person who had any say in the theme, nobody else.” He was disappointed in the seniors who blamed their ASB officers for the theme and said, “spirit week is not just choosing something you love/like, it’s about being creative and stepping out of your comfort zone.”
One senior, Gian Balabar, showed difference from the rest of his class, “I like the theme because I am a fan of Harry Potter. I think it will be difficult for skit but easy for float.” When asked how he felt about the petition made by his fellow classmates he replied, “I don’t think that the petition will make any difference because they’ve already finalized the theme and if people really don’t like it, then they don’t need to participate.”
Another senior, and ASB Vice President, Reina Reyes says, “I think it’s a very ambiguous theme. It’s definitely something we’ve never done before and people just need to get creative. There’s more than what meets the eye with this theme.”
