New Haven Unified School District jumps into the second semester with a great and beneficial opportunity for all the seniors in the district. Seniors graduating this upcoming June 2019 from James Logan, Conley-Carabello, and Decoto School For Independent Study are all eligible to apply to this community funded scholarship. In order to receive your award, you must show proof that of enrollment and attendance.
Last year, this scholarship foundation granted over $140,000 to graduating seniors! Along with the scholarship, award winners will also be attending an award luncheon to meet their sponsors and have the opportunity to thank them.
Facilitating the process, the AwardSpring online system made sure to make it an easy process for all. One application will match you to the awards you qualify for. This is an amazing educational opportunity for all students who wish to prosper and continue their educational journey and attend college. Plus, it is relatively easy to apply.
“Scholarships can become a hassle; most applications require a lot of work and some are complicated,” Senior Stephanie Gonzalez said. “Let alone the fact that many can be international or against many other people. I think this is a great opportunity for us, it’s one application and it’s a local scholarship! Giving us all a higher chance to receive any awards.”
The scholarship requires a personal essay in which the applicants have the chance to express themselves academically and their educational plans for the future. Students can talk about their achievements, community service, and many other subjects. The application requires one letter of recommendation but two are needed for some scholarships.
“We’re given about a month or so for this scholarship, I think that’s great! It gives us time to revise our essays and enough time to make sure that the application we sent out was well written and revised. Many of my prior classmates of last year’s senior class received scholarships, it was really amazing to see our own community give back to us so we can fulfill our dreams,” Senior Salvador Esquibel said.
It is advised that you start asking for your recommendation letters as of right now, to ensure the writer has enough time to complete them. By the end of April, all students who participated will be notified for any of the awards they received.

“This is such a good opportunity no one should miss out on. Let’s take advantage of what our community does for us,” Gonzalez said.
